H.E. Egyptian Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad held a virtual meeting today with development and management partners, Roland Berger, and great number of participants, within the framework of the Africa waste 50 Initiative by 2050.
This is the second meeting after the one held on July 3rd 2022. The main target of this virtual meeting is to see how the private sector and NGOs, besides the public sector and local partners can participate to manage the waste in all African countries.
H.E. Dr. Yasmine Fouad assured that « Waste management is a critical topic specially that Egypt is hosting the COP27 in November 2022. Waste is contributing in climate change and has impact on economic and environmental situations. Egypt is preparing this African initiative with partners like Roland Berger consultancy and other partners. It is important to have partners in all African countries, but I have to say that without the private sector, it will not reach the success desired ».
She added: « What we need from this meeting is to see how best the private sector can contribute in this initiative, especially in participating in using waste in generating energy or biogas. We must have and present plenty of ideas in order to have the private sector in this initiative ».
Dr. Fouad insisted on the importance of having sustainable finance for this African initiative, so as to be able to continue working, and the must of giving the private sector all the technical materials to contribute in all African countries.
This virtual meeting has been attended by Dr. Nagwa El Karawy, Minister Advisor of Waste and by many other participants from many countries in the region.
A presentation has been showed to participants explaining the initiative and what the mainframes of work are. It is important to note that another meeting will take place next September 6th, to prepare an initiative implementation during the COP27 hosted by Egypt in November 2022.
