Endria Thadross: System of Hallmarking by Laser Faces Problems in Application

Endria Thadross, member of the General Branch of Gold at Cairo Commerce Trade, said that the system of hallmarking by laser and the nano technology faces problems in application along with difficulties in carrying out.

Thadross pointed out that the state should quote the Sudanese or the Thai experiments in hallmarking by using lased without the nano technology to show the data of the gold item.

He indicated that the small workshops affect negatively sales of companies and factories due to present products with mean fees of manufacture by exploiting ignorance of the customers because they do not criteria of carat and soundness of the hallmarking.

Thadross added that the state should strengthen the control on the small workshops because they damage the reputation which is the biggest challenges face the manufacturers when they try to export to foreign countries.

He revealed that the international market took a long time to get rid of the bad fame.

Thadross asks to remove obstacles, such lack of time and abolishing fees of pricing that are estimated at 1% of gold value.

He suggested reducing of general profit tax on exported gold items to create real opportunities in competing with foreign companies exporting to the Arab markets.

He went on to say that the percentage of foreign labor in the local market doesn’t exceed 10% as the companies attempt to benefit from foreign experiences in qualifying and training Egyptian cadres for limited period.

Thadross stressed that the Egyptian labor is good but they need qualification and training, especially in the early age as well as establishing vocational schools to learn craft of gold and jewelry so these school will bring fruits in the near future and they present a real start to develop the local industry.

Thadross proposed to open technical schools in all governorates to increase number of the graduates, fill the gap in industry, and reduce the rate of unemployment among the graduates.
