''El-Sinnary House''.. Home to French Expedition in Egypt

''El-Sinnary House'' is one of the three houses that were confiscated by the French in 1798 to serve as a residence for the members of the French commission of science and arts that accompanied the military expedition of Napoleon to Egypt.

''El-Sinnary House' was built  in 1794 AD by Ibrahim Katkhuda El-Sinnary, a Sudanese man who came to Cairo from “Dongola”, a Sudanese city and worked as a gate keeper in Mansoura then he joined the society of wealthy people in Egypt. The house is located in al-Nasseriya area at El-Sayeda Zeinab district in Cairo.

The house is characterized by ornamental architecture art that is obvious through its walls and ceilings what makes it a unique masterpiece.

This archaeological house is considered as one of the integrated models characterized by its unprecedented architectural style manifesting in exquisite mashrabeya screens overlooking the main street, in addition to the magnificent fountain in the middle of the house’s courtyard.

It's consists of various open air halls and inner courtyard. It also has a “haremlek” woman’s private space with two “mashrabeya” screens  overlooking the main street at the front and the” ma’qad “courtyard” of the house at the back in addition to a “salamlek “guest room for men which has the largest “mashrabeya” screen in the house.

The house also organizes events especially for young people “Youth Salon” to share their talents, ideas and visions and to develop their skills and knowledge through courses and workshops.

The project is really aiming at creating platform for science, art and culture in Al-Sinnary House to restore its role as a scientific institute.
