El Gouna Film Festival 3rd Edition Concludes Tonight

The third edition of Gouna Film Festival (GFF) will conclude on Friday evening at El Gouna Resort-town, in Red Sea governorate, amid the attendee of celebrities.

The festival, which runs off from September 19 to 27, is held under its permanent slogan “Cinema for Humanity”.

It is scheduled for Egyptian comedian-actor, Mohamed Henedy to receive the Creative Achievement Award in recognition for his outstanding career at the festival closing ceremony.

The festival, which will be presented by TV presenters Sherif Nour El Din, and Bassel Alzaro, will be broadcast on “On E” satellite channel at 07:30 pm (Cairo local time), and live-streamed on Facebook.

‘El Gouna Film Festival Song’

It is set for the festival to unveil this edition new song “Saqfa”, which will feature many celebrities including Hala and Hana Shiha, Shereen Reda, Tamer Habib, Amina Khalil, Tara Emad, and others.

Cairo-based Tunisian actress, Hend Sabri revealed in televised remarks that upon hearing the song, she found it to be a “Hit”.

UNICEF X GFF

The festival had collaborated with UNICEF for the next five years, where they will development and production of films about children in need.

This year, they created 'Hazihi Laylati a film which deals directly with children's rights.

Films and Juries

This year, featured the screening of more than 80 films, which included 51 competing in the three official competitions, three official competitions (Feature Narrative Competition, Feature Documentary Competition, and Short Film Competition), which totals 224,000 USD.

The festival’s Feature Narrative Competition jury included iconic Egyptian film director Khairy Beshara for president, award-winning director and producer Mai Masri, Nashen Moodley, Resul Pookutty, and Stas Tyrkin.

The Feature Documentary Competition jury was headed by acclaimed Senegalese director, producer, screenwriter and actor Moussa Touré, and consists of award-winning director and producer Anne Aghion, Ludmila Cvikova, Talal Derki, and Nahed Nasrallah.

Meanwhile, the Short Film Competition jury was headed by prominent Egyptian director Marwan Hamed and includes Tunisian star Dorra Zarrouk, Colombian-Belgian film director and cinematographer Juanita Onzaga, Jukka-Pekka Laakso, and Iraqi director, producer, and screenwriter Mohamed Daradji.

Noteworthy, the festival was established on September 22, 2017, to underscore the role cinema plays in promoting cultural interaction and to highlight the awareness of different cinematic voices through encouraging dialogue and by building bridges of creative intellect.
