El Gouna City, located in Egypt, celebrates the launch of the tenth edition of the PSA Platinum El Gouna International Squash Championship for men and women, which will be hosted by El Gouna from May 27th to June 3rd.
This came during a press conference attended by Sports minister Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Assem Khalifa, President of the Egyptian Squash Federation, Mohamed Ashour, Head of the Commercial Sector and business development in El Gouna, and Amr Mansi, CEO of IEVENTS, in addition to a group of press and media men.
“I’d like to thank Orascom company for their continuous support to the youth and sports sector in Egypt by organizing the PSA tournament, which achieved a great success over the last ten years,” the Egyptian sports minister said.
“It is one of a series of tournaments and sporting events carried out by the Egyptian state to support the sports sector, through fruitful cooperation between the private and governmental sectors, such as what we are witnessing in the El Gouna International Squash Championship from the ministry’s cooperation with Orasquam Development and IEVENTS.”
He also confirmed that Squash in Egypt is a national project and one of the mechanisms for transforming sports into an economic sector, noting that the El Gouna International Squash Championship is a leading tournament at the level of individual games, and a continuation of Egypt’s dominance of squash sport globally.
He also explained that this tournament works to promote tourist attraction cities in Egypt, such as the city of El Gouna.
During his speech, Sobhi referred to the national project for squash talents, which is implemented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which is a true nucleus of squash in Egypt in the future, noting that the coming period will witness a national squash project in schools.
