Ahmed Hanno, the newly appointed Minister of Culture, marked his first day in office at the Ministry’s new headquarters in the Administrative Capital with an early morning start and a strong commitment to driving cultural progress in Egypt.

Hanno began his tenure by extending gratitude to his predecessor, Dr. Nevine El-Kilani, for her contributions to the Ministry of Culture.

He emphasized the need for a phased action plan to elevate the cultural sector, focusing on innovative solutions, advanced ideas, and the promotion of digital transformation.

Hanno outlined his vision to develop multiple electronic platforms for various creative and innovative fields, ensuring the cultural sector keeps pace with technological advancements and the global revolution in electronic applications and artificial intelligence.

He highlighted the potential of turning smartphones into mobile cultural platforms, making culture more accessible to the public.

"Egypt is rich with its creators and diverse cultural and artistic streams," Hanno stated, reaffirming the Ministry's dedication to the principle that "culture is a right for all Egyptians."

The Ministry aims to spread awareness and culture across all regions of Egypt, promoting values of dialogue, tolerance, and acceptance among different segments of society.

The new minister emphasized a collaborative approach within the Ministry’s various sectors and stressed the importance of cooperation with other ministries focused on human development, including the Ministries of Education, Youth and Sports, and Higher Education.

His appointment marks the return of a visual artist to this prestigious position, a first since the tenure of Farouk Hosni, who held the post for 24 years.

Hanno’s extensive background in both the arts and academia makes him a well-rounded choice for the role. According to Abdelkhaleq, Director of Training Programs at the Aswan Women's Film Festival, praised the selection, highlighting Heno’s dual expertise in artistic creation and academic administration.

Born on December 13, 1968, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Printmaking) from Helwan University in 1992.

He furthered his studies with a Master's degree in Experimental Animation from Cairo University in 1997 and earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy of Art, specializing in Visual Communication and Creative Animation Films.

Hanno is one of the founding members of Galala University, where he has held several key positions, including Vice President for Student Affairs in 2023 and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design in 2021. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University in 2019.

His academic career includes stints at several prestigious institutions such as the German University in Cairo, Nile University, and the Faculties of Fine Arts at Minia and Mansoura Universities.

Hanno has been an active member of the Syndicate of Fine Artists since 1992 and is also a member of the Syndicate of Animation Artists and the Society of Fine Arts Lovers.
