Egypt’s National Library Houses lmportant Manuscripts

The National Library is the oldest government library that includes million of authored and translated volumes covering every field of knowledge, in addition a vast variety of Arab and other oriental manuscripts. The main library is a seven story building in “Boulaq”, a district of Cairo.

It started in 1870 by a decree from “Khepe Ismail” through an initiative from Ali Pasha Mubarak, the education minister at that time.

The National Library and Archives of Egypt is a government research and cultural non-profit authority, whose main concern is to render library services throughout Egypt and the Arab World.

It includes 55.000 of the significant collections of manuscripts and microforms in the world which are rendered in Arabic, Turkish and Persian languages.

The library also comprises a number of research centers, such as: the Center for Editing & Publishing Arabic Manuscripts, Center of Documents and Contemporary History of Egypt, the Documentation and Research Center for Children’s Literature.

The Microfilm Center, which has recently been provided and equipped through a Cooperation Protocol concluded between Egypt and Kingdom of Spain.

Egypt Library collects all documents pertaining to national history and any other relevant subject matter in all ages to prepare and maintain these for general use.
