On Tuesday, the Spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Counselor Ahmed Hafez, affirmed that Egypt adheres to reaching political solution to put an end to the escalating conflict in Libya and to achieve stability in Libya while maintaining the unity and territorial integrity of the North African country.

In a statement, he also expressed Egypt's appreciation for the relative stability achieved by the Libyan National Army (LNA) through fighting against the Turkish-supported terrorism nationwide.

He noted that this comes within the framework of Egypt's permanent cooperation with its brotherly and friendly countries neighboring Libya that are interested in the fate of the Libyan people.

The spokesman also confirmed that Egypt's insistence to reach a political solution in Libya, does not mean that the war against terrorist groups (supported by Turkey) in Libya should stop nor engaging into negotiations with these groups about the future of Libya.

It is noteworthy that the General Commander of the LNA Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar addressed the Libyan people and announced that the LNA would take over the management of Libya’s affairs.

In a televised speech, Haftar expressed his appreciation to the Libyan people for their support of the country’s armed forces in their battle against terrorism in Libya.

He also noted that the LNA’s victories to date would not have been possible without the support of the Libyan people and the many sacrifices made by officers and soldiers for the country’s safety and sovereignty.

The LNA commander then announced that the UN-brokered Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) that was signed in Skirhat, Morocco in 2015 had become redundant and was no longer valid.

The Libyan Political Agreement signed in Skirhat, Morocco, in 2015 was a UN-brokered international agreement that ratified the GNA as Libya’s executive branch and left legislative authority to the House of Representatives (HoR) as per elections that took place in June 2014. The LPA also established the High Council of State.

Libya has been split since 2014 between areas controlled by the internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli and the northwest, and the Eastern-based Interim government in Benghazi.
