Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry heads to Greece, on Tuesday, in an official visit to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation and issues of common interest.

Shoukry’s visit to Athens is scheduled to include a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said Monday.

After concluding his visit to Athens, the Foreign Minister will travel to Cyprus, where he will meet Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiadis and hold consultations with his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides, Hafez revealed.

He added that Shoukry’s meetings with the officials of the two countries will discuss ways to boost bilateral relations and exchange views on major regional and international issues, particularly terrorism, illegal migration and the situation in the Middle East.

The meetings will also address coordination and consultation within the tripartite cooperation mechanism, which brings together Egypt, Cyprus and Greece.

Last April, Shoukry delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on boosting bilateral relations, MENA news agency reported.

Sisi welcomed the launching of the strategic mechanism between Egypt and Japan, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said in a statement.

Shoukry handed over Sisi’s message to Abe congratulating him on his re-election, and inviting him to visit Egypt and participate in the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum which is a symbol of the Egyptian-Japanese friendship.

He reviewed the features of the Egyptian economic transformation, calling on the Japanese government to increase its contribution in the Egyptian mega projects.

He voiced Cairo’s keenness on coordinating with Tokyo to prepare for the seventh TICAD conference, slated for August 2019 which is co-chaired by Egypt and Japan.

On his part, Abe conveyed his greetings to president Sisi, praising solid relations between both countries.
