Egypt's Agricultural Exports exceed 4.1 Million Tons for 1st Time

Al Sayed el-Quseir, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation announced that Egyptian agricultural exports exceeded 4.1 million tons, for the first time.

The Minister of Agriculture said - in a statement on Friday - that despite the pandemic crisis that confused the movement of international trade and transport, as well as the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which caused a shortage in the exports of some commodities, the state’s efforts contributed to compensating for the shortfall and the tendency to increase exports of some other commodities through opening new markets, expanding the coding system, follow-up, and developing agricultural quarantine.

The Minister of Agriculture had received a report from Ahmed Al-Attar, head of the Central Department of Agricultural Quarantine on the total agricultural exports during the period from January to July, which amounted to 4,191,200 tons of agricultural products.

The report stated that the most important agricultural exports are: citrus fruits, potatoes, fresh onions, grapes, fresh tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries, fresh beans, guavas, garlic, and watermelons.

He added that the total agricultural exports of citrus reached 1,610,773 tons, in addition to the export of 828,635 tons of fresh potatoes, ranking second in agricultural exports after citrus.

Up to 239,680 tons of onions were exported, ranking third in exports, while grapes stood in the fourth spot with a total of 128,570 tons.

Beans occupied the fifth spot with a total of 95,403 tons.

He pointed out that Egypt's exports of potatoes ranked sixth with a total amount of 42,460 tons, while Egypt's exports of tomatoes ranked seventh with a total of 32,902 tons, followed by garlic in eighth place with a total of 21,185 tons.

Strawberries ranked ninth with 19,425 tons, watermelon tenth with a total of 8,234 tons, and guava ranked 11th with a total exports of 7015 tons.
