The Egyptian community in the United States organized a peaceful protest in front of the White House to urge U.S. President Donald Trump to activate the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) negotiations.

In New York and New Jersey, the Egyptian community organized a protest in front of the White House in Washington to support the Egyptian position in the GERD negotiations.

Their great ages did not prevent them

This protest was a result of an invitation made by a delegation of Egyptian professionals and academics in the United States, where they called for a signature campaign for all the Egyptian communities in America and the world, and to send an open message to Trump to urge him to activate the Renaissance Dam negotiations between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan.

The aim of the protest is to ensure the legitimate rights of Egypt in the Nile River And to prevent any possible damages to the dam that could affect the life and existence of more than 110 million Egyptian citizens, who live along the narrow strip of the Nile Valley and Delta.

Moreover, the delegation also prepared a comprehensive assessment of the effects of the GERD on Egypt in preparation for handing it over to the White House.

The Egyptian expatriates manifested that Egypt's climate is very dry (95% of which is desert), and 97% of its water is derived from the Nile and does not have any other sources of water, stressing that the Nile River is a matter of life and existence for more than 110 million Egyptian citizens.

Minister of State for Immigration, Ambassador Nabila Makram, lauded the launch of an electronic campaign by the Egyptian expats in the United States to sign a memorandum to urge the US administration to exert more efforts to support the GERD negotiations and protect Egypt's water rights in the Nile River, and their willingness to organize a demonstration in front of the White House on Sunday at 11am (Washington time) and 5pm CLT.

Makram added that this is not strange for Egyptians abroad, noting that the Egyptian expats have a spirit of loyalty and belonging to their homeland, regardless of the years of their presence abroad.

She noted that the Egyptians abroad have not and will not be late to support their country in the most difficult circumstances, thanking all who participated in this campaign, whether by preparing for it or signing electronically.

He came with his car to support his country

The minister of immigration revealed the keenness of young Egyptian expats from the second and third generations to participate in the campaign, where they signed the memorandum affirming Egypt's right to the Nile River, pointing out that the last youth delegation from Canada and Australia had signed the form that supports Egypt's water rights.
