Egyptian-Tunisian FMs discuss latest developments in Libya

Foreign Ministers Sameh Shoukry held talks with his Tunisian counterpart Othman Jerandi on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the situation in Libya.

Shoukry stressed the importance of intensifying efforts in the upcoming period at bilateral and regional levels in order to restore stability and security as well as face security challenges.

The two ministers discussed a number of regional and international issues of common interest. They stressed the importance of more coordination and consultation on such issues.

The Tunisian minister expressed his deep satisfaction with the progress made in selecting the new Libyan leaders and completing the transitional phase in preparation for the elections in December 2021 in accordance with the roadmap emanating from the political dialogue forum held in Tunis.

Jerandi also welcomed the appointment of the new UN envoy to Libya. He stressed the need for the international community to support his efforts and to provide all appropriate conditions to build on the current positive momentum enjoyed by the Libyan file.

He also called for Libya's direct neighboring countries to play a more effective and efficient role in accompanying and assisting the Libyans in this phase.
