The Egyptian women's basketball team put up a tenacious fight but were ultimately bested by Nigeria's D’Tigress in the 2023 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda. D'Tigress continued their bid for an unprecedented fourth consecutive continental title, fending off the Egyptians with an 83-65 scoreline.

In the engaging contest at BK Arena, the Nigerian squad dominated the first half, securing leads of 18-10 and 24-13 in the first two quarters. However, Egypt demonstrated their resilience, bouncing back to take the third quarter 19-14.

Entering the final quarter, the Egyptians pushed back hard. Despite their vigorous efforts, D’Tigress emerged victorious, winning the last quarter 27-23, culminating in an overall score of 83-65.

Amy Okonkwo led the charge for the Nigerian side with a commendable performance of 29 points and 13 rebounds. Murjanatu Musa and Nicole Enabosi were also instrumental, contributing 18 and 10 points respectively.

This win marks Nigeria's third consecutive victory over Egypt following previous wins in 2015 and 2017. While D’Tigress has sealed their place in the quarterfinals, the Egyptian team faces a crucial qualifying round against DR Congo for the chance to join Nigeria in the next stage.
