As part of the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry’s strategy for a comprehensive digital transformation, the Ministry began to activate the electronic ticketing system for the Egyptian museum and operated e-payment machines for museum entry tickets on Monday, which will replace the manual ticket payment system.

Special assistant to the Minister for digital transformation Khaled Sherif explained "In its new strategy for a comprehensive digital transformation, the Ministry of Antiques has facilitated the entry mechanism and offered a digital registration on entry for tourists entering the museum so as to reduce overcrowding by using modern tickets bearing a QR code."

“These smart gates ticket new services in the museum will allow the tourists to pass the gate with QR code,” he emphasized.

He added that this smart solution provides a fast, convenient and stable advance payment service in the museum.

According to Sherief, the recent development of electronic gates will help regulate entry and exit traffic to the museum, and tickets are accepted by the barcode system and contactless cards, as well as specialized gates that can handle peak times, in addition to implementing the validity system for tickets and preventing their use for more than one visitor.

Also in this regard, the official revealed that the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir square is the second site to activate the digital transformation project for museums and archaeological sites after the NMEC, adding that “this comes in line with the ministry’s implementation and activation of the digital transformation project for 30 museums and archaeological sites nationwide."

It's worth mentioning that the gates of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir were activated after approximately two months of re-installation procedure.
