Egyptian League Winner, Runner-up to Participate in Preliminary Stage of CAF CL

Egyptian Premier League winner and the runner-up will participate in the preliminary stage of the upcoming CAF Champions League(CL).

The tournament will begin on Tuesday, August 30 and end on May 30 following the decision of the CAF Executive Committee on 20 July 2017.

"The Egyptian club participating in the upcoming tournament will begin their adventures from the preliminary stage," said Shiho Deco, a member of the AU Club Competition Committee.

"Egyptian league winner will play against a club from South Sudan, while the runner up will clash against a team from Somalia," he added.

He also explained that Tunisia's Esperance, alongside Morocco's Wydad Casablanca, and TP Mazembe would not take part in the preliminary stage.

Al Ahly is leading the league with 74 points, while Pyramids came second with 70 points.

Zamalek are the third place with 68 points. The whites have only three games against El Gouna, Ismaily, and Al Ahly. Whereas the Red Devils have only two encounters versus Mokawlon and Zamalek.
