Egyptian Embassy in Belgrade Gathers Museum Officials With Icon Hawas

CAIRO, Dec. 9 (SEE) - Egypt’s Ambassador in Belgrade Amr Elgweily hosted a business lunch which gathered managers of biggest museums in Serbia with Antiques icon Mr. Zahi Hawas.

The attendees discussed how the ancient Egyptian civilization was introduced and featured through different sorts of arts, such as theatre, music and drawings.

Among the attended was Dubravka Filipovski, deputy speaker and head of parliamentary friendship association with Egypt.

During the event, Dr. Hawas noted about some expected discoveries in ‘Wady Elmelouk’ (Kings’ valley) area that will be announced by the end of this month.

He said that Egypt enjoys security and that’s why tourists are gradually coming back to Egypt. He invited the attendees to enjoy what he described as the codification of human civilization, in Egypt.

On other hand, Dr. Hawass talked about the activities of Cleopatra Club, which gathers a number of foreign ambassadors accredited in Cairo, and those fond of the civilization of ancient Egypt. He said that he is keen to participate in it to introduce the old civilization to the diplomatic community.

He praised the admiration felt by the Serbian people toward the ancient Egypt. He noted that he mentioned this in his book "Serbia through Egyptian Eyes", which presents the memories of the former ambassadors of Egypt in Belgrade, and the memoirs of senior intellectuals with Serbia, and edited by Ambassador Amr Elgweily.

On his part, Ambassador Elgweily said that the meeting tackled the expansion of the campaign launched by the Embassy this year entitled "Egyptology for All" with hashtag: #EgyptAllogy, to include featuring ancient Egyptian civilization through all kinds of arts.

He added that talks were held with the manager of the National Theatre (opera) to present the new Egyptian-Italian show “Tut Anekh Amun”. Also, talks were held with the manager of the National Museum to study an allocation for the Egyptian antiquities, as well as cooperating with antiques reconstruction center at the Grand Egyptian Museum to restore the funerary mask which currently exist in Serbia. Talks were also held with the manager of the Museum of Anthropology Taina Antiche for cooperating with the National Museum of Egypt. The Ambassador also consulted with the Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art about preparing for an exhibition of how contemporary artists see the ancient history of Egypt. In addition, there will also be translations and interpretations for books written by

Professor of Archeology at the University of Belgrade, Branislav Andjelkovic and Vera Vasilevich, who wrote about Ancient Egypt, from Serbian to Arabic, in preparation for Egypt's participation as a guest of honor at the Belgrade Book Fair next year.

The Egyptian ambassador added that he and the cultural secretary of the municipality of Belgrade Andrea Buyanch, had talk to held an exhibition of the prints of the antiquities as well as with the cultural secretary of the municipality of Uzitsa Nemanja Niesch, to include a promotional activity on Egyptology within the twinning program with the city of Aswan. He concluded by saying that this persity of tools and expansion in the scope of communication will enhance the understanding of the ancient civilization of Egypt in the conscience of the Serbian people, with its different age and social sectors, which strengthens, in turn, the friendly relations between the two countries.
