Egyptian Cavalry or Equestrian art is one of the most important in old Arab heritage, but also one of the most clever skills that has been a trademark of pride and honor. Kings, princes and statesmen are taught to master this art since childhood. In addition, it is one of the war tools, used by various armies for many centuries before the advent of moving vehicles, such as cars, tanks, armored vehicles and the like.

All this reflects also the development at the police system in Egypt, which used to rely entirely on Arab horses and cavalry in various policing and security activities. But now, the horses are confined to a certain department at the police, currently located only at Cairo, Alexandria and Asuit.

Their duties now are limited to the mass organizing operations, riot dispersing and securing certain important events in which cars and motorcycles are not allowed. They also participate in major events such as public ceremonies and football matches. Police horses are also used in military funerals and official processions, with a total of 100 horses do exist.

Horse riders are precede the convoy of drums annual festival at street El-Moez. They participate each year at the festival, carrying three flags; the national, the Interior ministry's, and the third flag is for the department of cavalry. The rest of the procession carries the spears used in relevant competitions.

The cavalry is set up by an equestrian school where police officers and their children participate. Egyptian cavalry men in police ranks from lieutenant colonel to brigade look the same as those graduating from police colleges.

The cavalry department is preparing to take part at the closing ceremony of the drums festival in the castle, as well as to secure the African Cup of Nations to be held soon on the land of Egypt.
