Mane, Liverpool’s star Mohamed Salah and Algeria’s Captain and Man City player Riyad Mahrez were nominated for the 2019 CAF Player of the year award.

The private jet, which was allocated to carry the three international players, took off from England without Salah.

Meanwhile, CAF received an official apology from Mahrez for not attending the ceremony due to his commitment to his Premier League club Manchester City.

Algeria’s captain apologized as he has an important clash with the Citizens against Manchester United in the Premier League.

Mane becomes so close to scooping his first Africa Player of the Year Award as the other two nominees will not attend the ceremony.

He put in a sparkling performance with Liverpool and his national team as he guided Senegal’s national team to reach the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final, before suffering a 0-1 defeat from Algeria.

Also, he claimed the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup with the Reds during 2019.
