The first A220-300 for EgyptAir has successfully completed its inaugural test flight from the Mirabel assembly line, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

The Cairo-based airline is expected to receive the first 12 aircraft in the coming weeks.

“The A220 for EgyptAir will provide passengers with great comfort,” Airbus statement read.

In addition, the aircraft will enjoy innovative cabin design featuring the widest economy seats of any single-aisle aircraft and panoramic windows for more natural light.

The aircraft is outfitted with a brand new cabin layout of 134 seats.

“Moreover, it will now enter its final phase of completion before delivery,” the statement noted.

The A220 delivers unbeatable fuel efficiency and true wide-body comfort in a single-aisle aircraft.

Also, it brings together state-of-the-art aerodynamics, advanced materials and Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation PW1500G geared turbofan engines to offer at least 20% lower fuel burn per seat compared to previous generation aircraft.

With a range of up to 3,400 nm (6,300 km), the A220 offers the performance of larger single-aisle aircraft.

More than 80 A220 aircraft are flying with 5 operators on regional and transcontinental routes in Asia, America, Europe and Africa. They are all proving the great versatility of Airbus’ latest addition.

Egypt Signs Deal With EgyptAir , Bombardier

EgyptAir had signed a deal with Bombardier Inc. Fred Cromer to buy 12 C Series jets from the Canadian airline.

Airbus’ global reach and scale combines with Bombardier’s state-of-the-art jetliner in the A220 Family. It is now being produced in a partnership between Airbus and Bombardier.

Airbus manufactures, markets, and supports A220 Family aircraft through the Airbus-Bombardier partnership, with Bombardier’s two jetliners – previously designated the C Series – being brought into the Airbus commercial aircraft line-up.

In another context, EgyptAir started on Friday operating 22 flights from the airports of Jeddah and Medina to bring back home from Saudi Arabia pilgrims who performed this year's pilgrimage.

The flights are to carry back home up to 4,800 pilgrims, according to a statement issued by the company.
