On the sidelines of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2022 held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Natalia Kanem to discuss enhancing cooperation.

During the meeting, El-Said praised the comprehensive mission of the UNFPA and its strong partnership with the Egyptian government, in its long-term efforts to reduce maternal deaths and achieve sustainable development goals.

The Egyptian minister also met with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Usha Rao Munari.

Dr. El-Said noted that although the years 2021 and 2022 were a turning point for the countries of the world, they were also two years marked by active cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations Development Program.

"We can accomplish this pivotal contract of work only by benefiting from partnerships and working together successfully," she said.

The minister also expressed the Ministry of Planning's keenness to work with the United Nations Development Program to support Egypt's basic development priorities, including achieving the 2030 Agenda and implementing sustainable development goals, climate action, environmental protection, inclusive growth, and digital transformation.

In the same connection, El-Said indicated that the United Nations Development Program plays a key role in supporting Egypt in defining development priorities, while achieving a development impact on the ground.

It’s worth mentioning that the theme of this year’s forum is "Building back better after the Covid-19 pandemic, while promoting the full implementation of the 2030 sustainable development plan."
