Historical relations between Cairo and Abu Dhabi are based on awareness and a common understanding of the nature of regional and international that consolidate Arab and regional security.

Political relations between Egypt and the UAE witnessed a strong boost after June 30th Revolution when the Gulf country affirmed its full and continuous support for the Egyptian people in implementing the road map, which was announced by the armed forces, led by Abdel Fattah El Sisi, with the participation of political and religious forces.Egypt-UAE Relations... The Egyptian-UAE relations were based on the foundations of the strategic partnership between them to achieve the interests of the two peoples and face the challenges in the region. The leadership of the two countries and their officials met at all levels to coordinate on these challenges.

The number of exchanged visits between the leaders of the two countries has reached about 22 since 2014. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces visited the Egyptian capital about 13 times.

Popular diplomacy

The Egyptian popular diplomacy also played a role in supporting relations with Abu Dhabi, where it expressed its appreciation and thanks for the UAE's position which has backed Cairo in the fight against terrorism and extremist ideology.

On June 7, 2014, a high-level UAE delegation headed by Mohammed bin Zayed participated in the inauguration ceremony of President Sisi, to open the page on Egyptian-UAE relations during the era of the new Egyptian leadership.Egypt-UAE Relations... Strategic Partnership, Common Interests

After only 3 months, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks with the Egyptian President that included the files of the region, a visit that determined the strategic nature of the two leaders' meetings.

Sisi began the year 2015 with his first visit to the UAE, at the invitation of Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

It was agreed in February 2017 to form a bilateral political consultation mechanism that would meet every six months at the level of foreign ministers and the other at the level of senior officials.

The two countries have strong and solid relations, which represents a model to be emulated in Arab relations.

At the economic level, the UAE ranks first in terms of foreign direct investment in Egypt, as UAE direct investments reach about $15 billion. In return, Egypt is one of the UAE's largest trading partners, and the UAE market is the first destination for Egyptian exports.

Egypt and the UAE represent a buffer wall in order to protect the region, and a model of relations to be emulated in the region and the world.

Foreign Affairs Level

Recent years have witnessed close coordination between the two countries on major issues such as the Palestinian, Iraqi, Lebanese, Libyan, Yemeni and Syrian issues. There is a great convergence in political visions and positions towards regional issues.

Sisi congratulated the United Arab Emirates on its 48th anniversary. In a speech on his official page on social media on December 3, 2019, the Egyptian president said, "Today we celebrate the 48th anniversary of the founding of the sisterly United Arab Emirates, this day in which the leadership and people of this nation united towards a better future for the Arab Emirates, full of achievements, progress, and prosperity."

On June 6, 2020, the UAE Foreign Ministry expressed its support for "Egyptian efforts calling for an immediate ceasefire in Libya and a return to the political track," calling on all Libyan parties to respond to the "Cairo Declaration."

Last November, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan held a consultative meeting at the level of senior officials in the foreign ministries to discuss developments in the Syrian crisis and ways to settle it in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254 in a way that preserves Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.
