On Sunday, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Hafez stated that Egypt is following the developments of events in Tunisia. He confirmed Egypt`s full solidarity with the Tunisian people and its support for their legitimate aspirations.

"Egypt trusts the wisdom and ability of the Tunisian presidency to deal with this crisis as soon as possible," Hafez said.

On Saturday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt is following measures Tunisia is implementing to achieve security and stability. He added that Egypt trusts the wisdom of the Tunisian political leadership to manage the scene to achieve the aspirations of the Tunisian people.

In the same context, Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamr said that what is happening in Tunisia is an internal matter and “we have contacts with the Tunisians.”

He stressed that his country trusts the ability of the Tunisian people to put Tunisia’s march on the right path, pointing to his country’s support for the Tunisian state and its people.

Last week, Tunisia’s President decided to dismiss Tunisian Prime Minister Hicham Mechichi, suspend the country’s Parliament, and waived the immunity of all its members.

These decisions came in the wake of widespread protests across Tunisia against the PM and Ennahda, the Islamist ruling party affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, over the nation’s economic and social turmoil.

President Saied announced that he would assume control of the executive authority with the assistance of a new prime minister. This is the biggest challenge yet to a 2014 democratic constitution that split powers between the President, Prime Minister, and Parliament.
