Egypt, Spain Conduct Joint Naval Drills in Mediterranean

This morning, the navies of Egypt and Spain conducted a joint military drills in the Mediterranean Sea.

A statement by the Egyptian Armed Forces explained that the Egyptian frigate Toshka, as well as the Spanish REINA SOFIA warship, took part in the joint naval training, which reflect the high competitiveness and fighting capabilities, as well as the combating readiness of the Egyptian naval troops.

It featured air defense drills against hostile aerial targets, along with maritime attack deterrence formations and a re-supply drill.

The joint exercise came as part of Egypt’s Army’s plan to boost military cooperation and expertise exchange with friendly countries.

It also aimed to coordinate efforts over facing challenges and threats in a way that supports efforts to achieve stability and maritime security in the region.

Notably, the Egyptian and the Russian navies will hold joint drills in the Black Sea until the end of this year, the Black Sea Fleet’s press office reported on Thursday.

On another hand, the statement added that in Novorossiysk, the delegations of the Egyptian Navy and the Navy of Russia held a three-day conference on preparing and holding the joint exercise Bridge of Friendship -2020.

The main goal of the meeting of the naval sailors from both countries was to work out and approve a plan of the drills that will be held in the Black Sea for the first time.

During the drills, the warships of the Navy’s Black Sea Fleet and the Egyptian Navy will practice measures with the support of aircraft Russian to defend sea lanes against various threats. Under the single scenario, forces will be deployed to organize communications and resupply at sea and the participants in the maneuvers will hold an inspection of suspicious vessels.
