Egypt, South Sudan... Promising Partnership, Mutual Interests

Egypt is always keen on enhancing its foreign relations with other countries. It seeks to solve the problems and put an end to their crises, especially the states who are severly affected by their bad conditions, one of these countries is South Sudan.

Since the violence acts that hit the country years ago, Egypt had paid close attention to the developments of the crisis in South Sudan, its security and humanity situation, valuing the stability of fraternal South Sudan, and the strategic relations between both countries on governmental and non-governmental levels.

At that time, Egypt announced it will support all regional efforts aimed at reaching a quick solution to the crisis.

When the Coronavirus pandemic hit the world and South Sudan was badly affected, Egypt pledged further medical support for South Sudan to combat the disease, as well as Hepatitis C and B viruses.

Egypt has sent a military plane filled with medical supplies to South Sudan to support the country in its fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19).

South Sudan Salva Kiir is always praising Al-Sisi’s support for South Sudan during the recent severe floods that have hit his country. He also praised Egypt’s opening of an air bridge with South Sudan, to provide relief assistance to those affected by the floods.

In the South Sudanese fight against floods, Egypt confirmed its cooperation by sending 197 tonnes of humanitarian aid, including foodstuff, to those affected by recent extensive flooding in Sudan and South Sudan.

Regarding the irrigation file, there were a number of meeting by officials and ministers from the two countries to discuss ways to enhance Egyptian-Sudanese cooperation in the field of water resources.

Egypt also confirmed that it would increase the number of development projects for collecting and storing rainwater, with the aim of serving the South Sudanese people.

The cooperation between the two sides also was noticed in the education field as Egypt has signed a brand new protocol to offer 400 South Sudanese students full scholarships to continue their education in their home nation, as well as the to have the opportunity to benefit from Egyptian expertise which will be employed to revamp South Sudan’s higher education system as a whole.

Last month, Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly agreed with South Sudan irrigation minister Manawa Peter on forming a joint high committee with Egypt and to start coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to hold the committee’s first meeting in Cairo before the end of the year.
