Copenhagen, Jan. 15 (SEE) - Egyptians were delighted after their handball national team finally won their 2019 IHF World Handball Championship’s first match, on Monday, at the Royal Arena, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The championship is hosted by Germany and Denmark from 10 to 27 January. Egypt hosted this prestigious event in 1999 and is scheduled to host it once more in 2021. In 2023, the tournament is going to take place in Poland and Sweden.

On Friday, Egypt’s first match was against Sweden, where the former lost to the later 27-24. Egypt met Qatar, on Sunday, in its second match, and Qatar won 28-23. On Monday, Egypt played against Argentina, and the match ended 22-20 in the Pharaohs’ favor.

Egypt is scheduled to meet Hungary and Angola, on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Worth noting is that in 1986 Hungary achieved the championship’s silver medal. Hungary finished in fourth place in 1997. On the other hand, Egypt took fourth place in 2001. In 2015, Qatar won the tournament’s silver.
