Egypt reported 2,210 COVID cases on Sunday to set another record high for the 6th day in a row as the country continues to battle a surge in infections.

Sunday's figures brought the total number of reported coronavirus cases in the country up to 423,688 since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020, according to the Ministry of Health and Population's daily update.

The ministry also reported 38 new deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total fatalities nationwide to 22,604.

The ministry added that 1,974 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 356,274.

On Friday, Egypt surpassed the figure of 2,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic.

In recent weeks, Egypt has implemented new preventative measures at airports, seaports, and land crossings to control the surge in coronavirus cases.

On Saturday, Egypt received 115,000 doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine coming from Latvia.

Egypt has imported tens of millions of doses of all major coronavirus vaccines, including Sinovac, Sinopharm, Sputnik V, Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson, and has opened 1,393 vaccination centers in all governorates.
