Egypt’s U-19 handball national team qualified for the semi-finals of 2019 Men’s Youth World Championship after defeating Iceland 35-31 in North Macedonia on Thursday.

The Pharaohs came out on top in the first half with a 21-14 score, before further cementing their lead in the second half as they pulled off a 35-31 win. They will play against Portugal in the last 4 on Saturday, August 17 at 20:45 CLT. The African Champions qualified for the last 8 after crushing Slovenia 30-23 on Wednesday.

They finished first, topping their group with nine points as they pulled off four victories over Sweden, Chinese Taipei, Canada, and Hungary. Egypt suffered only one defeat by the defending champions France in their second game at the tournament.

They booked their place in the international tournament after claiming the African Championship title, held in Morocco, where they defeated Tunisia in the final game.

The Pharaohs made an ideal start to the tournament by defeating Sweden 32-29, before suffering a 28-24 defeat by holders France in the second game.

Egypt crushed Chinese Taipei in their third game with a 36-25 score on Friday. They defeated their rivals Canada with a 47-20 score in the fourth game of the group stage.
