Egypt Re-Elected Member of African Conference Bureau for 2021

Ambassador Namira Negm, the legal advisor to the African Union (AU) said that the countries of the North African region has officially informed the Union Commission on choosing Egypt to represent the region as a member of the African Conference’s Bureau in its formation for 2021.

According to a statement on Thursday, the office of the African Union (AU) conference includes in its formation the Democratic Republic of Congo as the president of the union and the head of the office in its next session, South Africa as the president of the union in its current session, and Egypt as a member of the office representing North Africa region for the next session.

The conference office is considered a council Miniature of African Heads of State, and it consists of the heads of five countries representing the five African regions.

Negm said that the elections of the Union Commission will begin today through the meetings of the Executive Council of Foreign Ministers of African countries in its 38th regular session, with six members of the African Union Advisory Council against Corruption, six members of the African Committee of Experts on Child Rights and Welfare, four judges of the African Court of Human and Peoples' Rights, and President of the Pan African University.

She added that the meetings of the Executive Council will extend online after the end of the next African summit at the level of heads on February 7 to elect six commissioners for the union in order to appoint the chairperson and deputy commissioner, as well as exclude all candidates from the countries of both geographical regions from which the president and his deputy will come, completing the competition for the seats of the six commissioners of the Union.
