Egypt Ranks 94th in Internet Speed Global Index

Speedtest report revealed that Egypt ranked 94th in terms of fixed broadband speed in March, with an average download speed of about 36.9 megabytes per second, according to the Ookla's March Speedtest Global Index

Egypt also ranked 98th in terms of mobile broadband speed during the same month.

The global average download speed for the Landline Internet during March recorded about 98.67 Mbps, compared to 53.22 Mbps for uploads. While the download speed on the mobile Internet on the global average is about 48.40 megabytes, compared to 12.60 megabytes for uploading files.

Broadband speed is essentially how quickly you can upload or download data using your internet connection. The average user spends more time downloading data such as music and films, so suppliers normally provide a faster download speed in comparison to upload speed.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) ranked first in connection data rate of mobile broadband speed, followed by South Korea and Qatar in third place. Singapore ranked first in fixed internet speeds, followed by Thailand and Hong Kong.

The fixed broadband speed in India has been declining since 2020, from 41.48 Mbps in January to 35.98 Mbps in March, a drop by 5.5 Mbps. Similarly, fixed broadband have dropped from 39.65 Mbps in February to 35.98 Mbps in March.

The internet access in Egypt reached 57.3% in 2019/20, compared to 47.6% in 2018/19, an increase of about 10%, according to the Ministry of Communications.

The number of high-speed internet (ADSL) subscribers reached 8.6 million by the end of October; Compared to 7.17 million subscribers, year-on-year, an increase of 1.43 million new subscribers.

The number of (Mobile Broadband) subscribers reached about 45.5 million users at the end of October, compared to 42.25 million users, year-on-year.
