Egypt, Jordan to Set Up Logistics Center

Egypt's Federation Chambers Commerce head (FECC) Ahmed El-Wakil, announced that Egypt and Jordan signed a deal to establish a logistics center in Jordan, as part of an Egypt, Jordan and Iraq plan to cooperate on manufacturing, energy, infrastructure and the post-war reconstruction of Iraq and Syria.

El-Wakil explained that the new center will be established in Jordan’s Mafraq Governorate bordering Iraq and Syria, and will include storage facilities and a zone for customs' clearance. This public-private shareholding structure will allow for revenue sharing.

According to studies, the center needs 360 acres, which will be phased in. It includes covered and exposed storage areas, refrigerators, customs area, parking areas, administration and services, pided between road and service areas, 40% open storage and expansions, 20% of construction includes stores and refrigerators.

On other hand, the center will be run by a holding company in which the federations will partner directly with industry players and an international company specializing in managing logistics centers.
