The Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) decided to fix the permissible limit for departures and arrivals from and into Egypt to carry a maximum of EGP 5,000 from the local currency.
According to what was published in the official gazette on Wednesday, the value of the Egyptian banknotes allowed to be carried by travelers entering or departing from Egypt is worth EGP 5,000.
A source in the Central Bank explained in statements that the decision comes in line with the previous banking law, which determined the value of what can be carried while traveling with the local currency and in with foreign currency at $10,000 or equivalent of other foreign currencies.
The official gazette stated that the decision will take effect starting Thursday, October 1.
