Egypt Extends COVID-19 Nighttime Curfew until End of Ramadan

The Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli said that the nationwide nighttime curfew, starting from 9 pm to 6 am, would be extended until the end of the Holy month of Ramadan, adding that this comes within the state's preventive measures to continue facing the coronavirus ' COVID-19' crisis.

In a televised speech, Madbouli said that Egypt had proved a distinguished experience in facing the deadly virus, while achieving a balance between preserving the health of citizens and the production rates, indicating that many countries, that imposed 24-hour curfew, caused the collapse of their economy and a severe shortage in the quantity of staple food.

COVID-19: Investment budget from 230 bln to 150 bln

The premier pointed out that the investment budget for the coming fiscal year will surge to EGP 230 billion, up from EGP 150 billion last year, noting that the move is meant to expand the development and service projects.

Madbouli added that the budget of the new urban communities authority will also be increased in the coming fiscal year to expand its ventures.

The prime minister pointed out Egypt repatriated over 1,100 Egyptians from Kuwait amid the COVID-19 crisis over the past two days.

On April 23, 2020,  Madbouli announced that the night-time curfew hours were shortened to start from 9:00 pm to 6:00 am during the holy month of Ramadan.

He added that the commercial centers are allowed to open over the whole week until 5:00 pm.

The Prime Minister announced that the state and the Egyptians have to cope with COVID-19 impacts via precautionary measures as the disease could exist for a long time.

Egypt confirmed on Wednesday 387 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 7,588.

“Seventeen more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 469,” Khaled Megahed, the Health Ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement.

“Up to 1,815 coronavirus patients have recovered so far,” the spokesman said.

“As many as 85 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today,” he added.

Also, the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 2,314 after getting proper treatment in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).
