Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the latest statement released by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) about Egypt.

Foreign Ministry’s Official Spokesperson Counselor Ahmed Hafez stressed that, “This statement is categorically not accepted from an UN-affiliated body.”

He added that the OHCHR “should have investigate the accuracy of all pieces of information published on behalf of it, not to build allegations and baseless expectations for the purpose of promotion of unreal impressions.”

Hafez stressed the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its categorical rejection to the OHCHR statement on Egypt which relies on undocumented data, noting that “this fact leads only to falsehoods because the allegations mentioned in the statement are based on false assumptions and rigid talks.”

“The hasty in judgments reflects the lack of professionalism,” he stated.

The spokesman stressed that actions taken against any person are carried out under the law and in accordance with sound legal procedures and in a framework of transparency and clarity.

The OHCHR was established by the UN General Assembly on 20 December 1993 in the wake of the 1993 World Conference on Human Rights.

Hafez affirmed that Egyptian authorities don’t arrest or send for trial its citizens for doing legitimate activities or criticizing the government, but “arrests are made against crimes.”

“Peaceful protests are guaranteed in accordance with law and the Constitution, according to necessary legal procedures,” he manifested.

In this regard, Egypt is following the same standards applied in world countries as the concerned authorities must be notified of protests with no intimidation of citizens and violation of freedoms of others, according to Hafez.

On Friday, Egypt witnessed dozens of peaceful protests nationwide. Dozens of thousands of Egyptians took to streets to express their support to the Egyptian government and political leadership.
