On Monday,  the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa al-Waziri, said that they decided to ban the entry of those under 16 years of age to the Giza pyramids area on Fridays, Saturdays, and official holidays except for holders of identity cards or those accompanied by a guardian.

He added, in a telephone call to the “Al-Hekaya” program, presented by Amr Adib on MBC Masr, that the decision will be implemented starting in July.

Waziri pointed out that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities will also provide tour guides and antiquities inspectors to explain historical facts about the Giza pyramids area to students in order to raise historical and archaeological awareness among young generations.

Several weeks ago, 13 teenagers sexually harassed female tourists at the Giza pyramids area, sparking anger among social media users who requested measures be taken against similar incidents.
