According to Al-Monitor website on Friday, Egypt is reportedly seeking an alliance with Sudan and Israel to counter Turkish moves in the Red Sea.

There have been reports that Egypt has formed a tripartite front with Israel and Sudan to alter the Turkish interference in the Red Sea.

A Turkish newspaper reported that Egyptian, Israeli and Sudanese senior military officials will hold a meeting to discuss protection measurements in the Red Sea region and plans to restrict the Turkish influence in the region.

The newspaper indicated that Egyptian General Intelligence Service officials, the Egyptian deputy defense minister and the Egyptian commander of the Southern Region will take part in the meeting since Egypt is not in good terms with the Turkish excursion in Somalia.

Hatem Bashat, a member of the Egyptian parliamentary Committee for African Affairs, said that Cairo is well aware of the “malicious” Turkish moves in Somalia to control the Red Sea.

He also added that Cairo will secure the Arab world from these ambitions through forming alliances and agreements to counter any threats.

It is noteworthy that the Turkish influence in Somalia has been recently increasing, after paying $2.4 million of Somalia’s debts owed to the International Monetary Fund and the visit of the Somali's Prime Minister to a Turkish military training center.

In this context, Altaqi Mohamed Othman, a Sudanese writer and analyst, told Al-Monitor that Turkey has turned to Somalia to compensate for the influence it lost in Sudan following the toppling of the former President Omar Al-Bashir.

Since Al-Bashir was a strategic ally of Erdogan and granted him the Red Sea island of Suakin under his rule to encircle Cairo and undermine its interests in the Red Sea.

It's so obvious that Cairo is trying to take advantage of the normalization of Israeli-Sudanese ties to form an alliance that would alter the Turkish ambitions in the Red Sea. It did before by cooperating with KSA in securing the Red Sea through joint exercises to protect navigation in the Red Sea against any threats.
