Egypt Aims to Export Handicrafts Worth $450 Mln by 2025

Vice-Chairman of Export Council for Handicrafts (EECH) and Member of the Board of Directors of the Union of Egyptian Industries Hesham el-Gazzar said on Tuesday that the country aims to reach $ 450 million worth of Handicrafts exports by 2025.

El-Gazzar added that the council has prepared a plan to promote Egyptian handicrafts abroad by organizing business missions for companies in several EU countries.

In addition, the council has promoted Egyptian products in new markets including African, and Asian ones, which are considered remarkable for possessing substantial purchasing power.

"The last mission went to the Netherlands, where companies are now negotiating with the Dutch side to organize an exhibition of Egyptian handicraft industries and products to support increase competition on the global market," he noted.

The EECH, in collaboration with The Cairo Habitat Cluster of the Creative Mediterranean Project-UNIDO, and the Export Development Authority (EDA) have participated with 12 habitat companies in the TICA Amsterdam POP- UP exhibition.

El-Gazzar pointed out that there are continuous cooperation with the Federation Of Egyptian Industries in order to revive handicrafts industry through increasing quality, preparing training workshops and developing handicrafts craftsmen.

In 2018, the sector's exports grew to reach $ 210.763 million compared to $ 202.882 million a year earlier at a growth rate of 4 percent.
