Minister of Culture Launches ‘The city Memory’ Initiative

“The City's Memory” initiative documents the architectural identity of the heritage areas and records the social conditions history of its sons.

Abdel Dayem: The Initiative "The City Memory” represents a historical responsibility to document and maintain the lands of civilization.

Abu-Saad: Specific criteria for safeguarding the architectural identity in the heritage areas.

Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem launched an initiative entitled “The city memory" to document the development of the architectural identity of the heritage areas in Egypt that has distinctive and unique heritage.

This initiative is organized by the national urban harmony organisation, headed by Eng. Mohammed Abu Souda. The initiative will begin with "Al- Zamalek Island" area q, which has a distinctive historical value.

On his part, Eng. Mohammed Abu Souda said that the heritage areas in Egypt is the pivot point of the Egyptian cities; they are considered to be an evidence that the Egyptians were able to deal with all the cultures and architectural styles.

He added that the National organisation of urban harmony is striving to maintain the architectural identity by using the country's structural construction high standards in the fields of heritage - with external procedures, that guarantees the nature of these areas.

It is worthy of note that "The city's memory" initiative depends on a series of books that shed light on the areas of historical and heritage value.

These books also mention the best ways of the restoration and safeguarding of the heritage areas. They also narrate the stories happened between the buildings and their residents in addition to registering the efforts of the Ministry of Culture in safeguarding the identity of the various Egyptian-region areas as an important part of the Egyptian cultural heritage.
