Egypt's match against Guinea saw Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah wear the leadership banner for the first time in his international career.

Salah joined the training camp of the national team last Wednesday, but didn’t get to participate in his country's match against Tanzania. However Salah joined the field in the second half of the match against Guinea and contributed to both Egypt's winning goals.

Salah wore the banner after Walid Soliman left the field, via orders from Javier Aguirre due to Salah's accomplishment this year after he won the champions league with the Reds.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to be the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. Cameroon would have hosted the competition for the first time since 1972.

They were also the title holders after winning the previous edition but was stripped of hosting the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations due to delays in renovating infrastructure, the Boko Haram insurgency and the Anglophone Crisis.

On 8 January 2019, Egypt was chosen by the CAF Executive Committee as the host nation of AFCON.
