Luxor.. this iconic city has always been known as a destination for tourists. In its new winter season, the city is presenting itself in a new visual identity and an impressive developed map for the outer world but also to the Egyptians - as a cultural tourist destination.

Since three years ago, under governor, Mohamed Badr, we have been following initiatives and cooperation between this ancient province and the German University in Cairo (GUC) in an attempt to develop, modernize and promote itself in tourism and globally, so that the place can restore its competitiveness with the world's most famous tourist cities, given that it has one-third of the world's antiquities.

The Corniche in its new form

With the approaching winter season, the city looks like a spectacular painting, with its landmarks, especially the Luxor Corniche with a length of 3 km, and an unprecedented development and beautification plan.

This plan started with the Nile Corniche, decorating it, and continued to replace and renovate the squares, paving and beautifying streets. It coincides with the first steps of the "visual identity" project, which was suggested, for the first time, by GUCians in November 2016, when the students designed a new "logo" for Luxor, a logo, whenever it appears in the world, it indicates Luxor.

New Luxor Logo

The visual identity project was implemented by GUCians; Ghada Wali and Yasmine Suleiman in order to consolidate the concept of identity and tourism promotion for Egypt.

The university has submitted the city the rights for using the intellectual property right for the visual identity and the new logo.

The design of Luxor logo took 6 months and a half, with the participation of more than 300 experts from Egypt, and Germany who contributed in developing the whole city and implemented projects in architecture and others. This process saw also the contribution of around 500 students at different levels at the university.

The logo was designed in modern developed colors to represent the main special facts about the city of Luxor, as it was inspired by the beliefs and symbols of ancient Pharaonic civilization.

Currently, this logo has been placed on a large number of government buildings and archaeological and tourist sites, hotels, etc. In addition, it was placed on the internal transportation means that serve the tourist groups, as well as 200 boats out of 270 sailboats, and 250 horse carriage out of 350 existing on the streets of the governorate.

The logo was placed as well on a large number of licensed taxis, as well as the pergolas of the Nile Corniche and new lighting poles.

Indeed, what happened in Luxor has reflected the fruitful cooperation with universities, through the transforming intelligent academic ideas into concrete projects, which helps to develop the skills of university students and benefit from their innovative thinking.

This is what was realized by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, when Ghada and Yasmine presented their experience with Luxor at the youth conference. The president was impressed by their idea and directed to apply it on other cities, but also design a visual identity to the whole of Egypt, in what so-called "Brand Egypt".

The idea was already extended to Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh and Aswan and the rest of the governorates of Egypt to come to establish its special domestic
