Desertification, Water Scarcity Threaten 100 countries, including Egypt, by 2050

The Egyptian Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel-Aty said that water scarcity and desertification will threaten 100 countries including Egypt by 2050.

The Egyptian minister participated in a conference, which comprises 20 countries, within the framework of the ongoing international preparations for the holding of the “United Nations Mid-Term Review Conference” to be held in March 2023, to celebrate World Water Day, and to agree on the five interactive dialogue topics that will be discussed during the United Nations (UN) conference.

In his speech, Abdel-Aty pointed to the importance of the United Nations Mid-Term Review Conference 2023, to which the peoples of the world aspire to reassure about the future of water and food around the world.

The minister warned that water scarcity threatens 36% of the world's population and that by 2050, water stress and desertification will threaten nearly 100 countries around the world including Egypt.
