Deaf and Hard-of-hearing Marathon Kicks off to Promote Tourism, Archaeological Sites

The Deaf and hard-of-hearing Marathon was launched Friday, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Tourism Promotion.

This comes within the framework of celebrating the International Day of the Deaf, which falls on September 17 of each year. This marathon aims to integrate the deaf and hard of hearing into society. In addition to promoting the tourist and archaeological sites that the marathon will pass through.

The marathon started from a number of Egyptian governorates, with 500 Rotary members and people with special abilities who are deaf and hard of hearing from Cairo Governorate, and 50 others from the rest of the governorates participating, to cover a distance of 4 km in each marathon.

Iman Abdel Rahman, Director General of the General Administration of Tourism Awareness explained that the authority’s sponsorship of this marathon comes within the framework of interest in people of determination and their integration into society and events that are concerned with accessible tourism.

A number of various artistic performances were held during the marathon, in addition to exhibitions featuring products for people of determination, and prizes were presented to the winning contestants in the marathon.

A group of marathons were also launched in parallel around the world in Mauritania, Nigeria, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain.
