Egypt's Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam announced that Friday, April 24, will mark the first day of Ramadan in Egypt, after attempts to observe the crescent moon of the holy month for the year 1441 AH.

"Represented in Dar Al Iftaa, legal and scientific committees were deployed throughout the country to explore the crescent of the holy month after sunset on Wednesday," Allam said in a statement.

"We have verified legitimately from the results of sighting the crescent of Ramadan that it has not been observed," he pointed out, adding that astronomical calculation also approved the same estimates.

Accordingly, Dar Al Iftaa announces that the Friday, April  24, will mark the first day of the holy month of Ramadan in the year 2020.
