In our everyday life, we come across people without recognizing that they are super heroes more than those we watch in animation movies. They are heroes who do not allow themselves to collapse in the aftermath of life incidents. Those heroes receive celestial messages due to the hardships they suffer.

I watched him dance on an wheelchair, flying in harmony. He could not walk on his feet, yet, he flew in the skies to show us that nothing could stop him. He is Mahmoud Al-Gazzar, a dancer with spinal injuries that left him on a wheelchair. It is an injury that, as a result, leaves people helpless in bed or other lucky people can leads their lives on wheelchairs.

How could a young man, who was in his twenties, studying tourism and planning a bright future for himself around the world, rest in bed. He was a footballer in a local club. Upon his injury in an accident, he secluded himself from his friends and colleagues.

During natural therapy, he got a message, when he saw cases more dangerous than his, so he decided that he would move ahead.

After three years of frustration, depression and despair he concluded that he needed rehabilitation therapy rather than physical one. He came to understand that disability lies in the heart and mind. Some people who are physically well are handicapped in their way of thinking.

Al-Gazzar thought of sports practicing. He had had a chance to play in one of the Premier League clubs before the accident. He started by weight lifting, then he had swimming and bow and arrow , where he had some medals.

Then he thought of dancing. He told himself, my feet cannot support me, but still I can dance. Why not dance, he asked himself. Then, he joined a modern dance course at Al-Shams Theatre of the Ministry of Culture. All he had was determination which played a great role in encouraging to continue with his life.

Shaimaa Shokry, director and dance trainer, said the show depended on Al-Gazzar as a content that expresses itself in front of people. He could perform acts and moves that no one could think of him doing as a handicapped. She added that he showed commitment and determination to do all the moves in the dance, a fact that made him number one in the choices of mine to who could deliver the message of the show.

At the American University in Cairo, along with his partner in the show, Salma Salim, he stunned the audience. He had a new history written for himself.

Al-Gazzar said he was grateful to director Shokry who was a key to his success.

“She helped me excel in the show. She did me something great that no one could ever do even my natural therapist.”

He also thanked Salma Salim, his partner in the show, “who could overcome fear to share my success.”

“They were both my partners in success,” he concluded.
