Preps Underway for Naguib Mahfouz Museum's Inauguration

Dr. Enas Abdel-Dayem, Minister of Culture, visited the Literature Museum of Naguib Mahfouz in the building of Tkeit Abu Dahab in Al-Azhar in preparation for its opening at the end of this month. The event coincides with Egypt's celebrations of 30 June Revolution.

The event was attended by the great writer Yusuf al-Qaid, Dr. Fathi Abdel Wahab, head of Cultural Development Fund and Engineer Mohamed Abu Saada, head of Urban Harmony Organization .

Abdel-Dayem said that her ministry tackled many challenges to complete all the works and equipment of Naguib Mahfouz Museum, stressing that what has been accomplished is a pride for all Egyptians and it reflects the country's concern to preserve literature as its soft power.

She pointed to the re-shaping and beautification of the area facing the museum through a mural carried out by the National Organization for Urban Harmony in cooperation with the Cairo Governorate. In addition, a portrayal of Naguib Mahfouz will be erected in the middle of a number of historical minarets that represent the spirit of his writings,

She noted that the scenario of the presentation of the museum was expressed through the emotional character of Mahfouz.

Furthermore , the minister called upon organizations and inpiduals to donate their holdings and collectibles to the display pavilion in order to enrich them and shed light on the unknown aspects of the life of the great writer.

It is worthy of note that Naguib Mahfouz's Museum consists of two floors, the first includes: auditoriums, a visual library, a public library, housing the most important researches and studies on Naguib Mahfouz's works.

The second floor includes: a pavilion for of certificates and medals obtained by Mahfouz and another pavilion for his personal belongings with the old and modern prints works of the writer with his hand writing , in addition to his translated works, cinema hall and several other halls bearing the names of "Al- Hara - The Alley ,"Rethaa' - Lamentations" ,"Ahlam Al Rahil - Dreams of the departed", "echoes of biography", "manifestations and noble."
