 Culture Min. Inaugurates Child Arts Biennale in Al Jazeera Center

Out of the country’s interest in promoting the new generation, Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture and Dr. Khaled Sorour, Head of Plastic Arts Sector, inaugurated the founding edition of Cairo International Biennale for Child Arts under 18 years.

This edition is held in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture represented in the plastic Arts Sector, Amsya Association for Art Education - Africa and the Middle East under the slogan of “My favorite Place, in the exhibition hall in Al- Gezira Arts Center in Zamalek.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Seryia Sidqi- head of the Biennial, Dr. Ahmed Hatem, the Biennial’s commissar and a number of plastic Arts Critics.

Abdel Dayem pointed to the role of arts and culture in refining conscience, adding that the ministry is giving huge opportunities for the participation of people with special abilities to help in their integration into the society.

The establishment of this edition embodies the cooperation of official state sectors with the civil society to achieve sustainable development.

On his part, Dr. Khaled Sorour, head of Plastic Arts, said that the Biennial, in its founding Edition, invites the children of the world to express their dreams and ambitions as well as their senses of their favorite places and their relationship with it.

 

The head of the Biennale explained that 2,185 participants were presented to the constituent edition from 19 Arab and foreign countries; 943 of whom were selected and examined by specialized jury.

The jury include Dr. Adel Thabet, Head of the Jury, members of Dr. Hana Zidan, critic Susan Shukri, critic Abeer Abdullah (Kuwait) Samir Ben Marzouk Ben Dahan (Saudi Arabia), Colleen Comforest (USA), Jennifer Espa Anderson (UK) and Dr. Mahinaz Maher Waheeb.

 

The general Commissar said that the Biennale confirms Egypt's pioneering role that reflects the value of practicing art as a right for all children.

He pointed out that its founding edition succeeded in attracting the world's children to participate in its activities.
