More than one billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in China by Saturday, as the country presses ahead with the largest vaccination campaign in the history of New China.

It only took the country five days to reach its latest 100-million dose increase.

China has accelerated free Coronavirus vaccinations for all since late March 2021, according to daily updates by the National Health Commission (NHC).

It is expected that at least 70% of the target population in China will be vaccinated by the end of this year, according to Zheng Yixin, deputy head of the National Health Commission.

"The large-scale vaccination campaign conducted throughout China showed that Chinese coronavirus vaccines are safe, and the incidence rates of common side effects and abnormal reactions caused by Chinese vaccines were lower than the average numbers reported," he added.
