The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced on Sunday that 16 mosques in 6 regions were temporarily closed after a number of cases of COVID-19 were confirmed inside them.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), a total of 644  mosques were closed in the Kingdom within 70 days, 610 of them were opened after the completion of sterilization, in the context of ensuring the safety of worshippers.

The COVID-19 cases have been recorded in more than 210 states.

Last month, the White House coronavirus task force has warned local authorities of a new strain of the virus that was identified in the United States, amid concerns that the mutation of the virus will impede the work of new vaccines and President Joe Biden’s plans to combat the pandemic.
