The Presidential Adviser for Health Affairs said that “No specific drug has been manufactured till now to treat the novel coronavirus,” according to Sada al-Balad website.

In exclusive phone remarks to presenter Wael al-Ebrashi late Saturday, Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din noted that some countries, including Egypt, are seeking a cure for the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

Tag El-Din revealed that the plasma of those recovering from the novel coronavirus began to be used in Egypt to treat some cases, noting that “Egypt is seeking to establish a factory to extract and assemble the plasma.”

The Health adviser to the president of the Republic pointed out that the Japanese drug that was used in China has proven effective in confronting the novel coronavirus and contributes to helping those infected with the virus recover faster.

“Later, the United States developed a treatment that was quickly approved by the American Medical and Drug Organization, as it showed the speed of recovery of those infected with the novel coronavirus, by 30 percent,” he added.

Egypt confirmed on Saturday 298 new coronavirus cases, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 6,193.

“Nine more deaths were confirmed; raising the total number to 415,” Khaled Megahed, the Health Ministry’s spokesman, said in a statement.

“Up to 1,522 coronavirus patients have recovered so far,” the spokesman said.

“As many as 62 Egyptians were among the recovered patients today,” he added.

Also, the number of coronavirus patients who had now been retested for the virus and had received negative results has reached 1,970, after getting proper treatment in coordination with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Earlier, Dr. John Jabbour, the WHO representative, noted that Egypt seriously dealt with the novel coronavirus since the start of its outbreak.

The Egyptian government took gradual measures to curb the spread of the virus, including the closure of schools and universities and preventing crowds, WHO representative stated.

In Egypt, 85% of the positive cases had recovered without treatment because their symptoms were simple, he said.

The death rate in Egypt reaches 7.6% and 13% of the confirmed cases are from the medical staff, he added.
