Coronavirus Infections in Africa Surpases 11 Mln, ACDC Says

The Africa Centres for Disease Control (ACDC) and Prevention announced that the total coronavirus infections in the continent reached nearly 11,601,683 million cases, representing almost 3% of the total infections worldwide.

Moreover, the death rate linked to COVID-19 virus reached 4.2%; on the other hand, the total number of recovered cases surpassed 9,720,622 cases in the whole continent.

South Africa witnessed the biggest recorded COVID-19 infections in the continent, followed by Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia, and Lybia.

ACDC also announced the rates of the vaccination in Africa, media agencies reported on Friday.

It revealed that the total number of vaccine doses given to African residents reached 297,921,172.

It is worthy to mention that the number of deaths in Europe surpassed two million cases, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the World Health Organization (WHO).

“A devastating milestone has passed as reported confirmed Covid-19 deaths from countries in the WHO European Region have exceeded more than 2 million people,” the UN Health Agency said.

According to the UN health authority, 2,002,058 people have died from the Coronavirus out of the 218,225,294 detected in the 53-country bloc.
