Regarding to new measures taken to combat the novel coronavirus in Egypt, the concerned authorities decided not to impose obligatory quarantine on passengers coming on exception flights from now on, permitting them to spend the necessary isolation period at home.

Well-informed sources at Cairo International Airport revealed that the Egyptian authorities allowed passengers returning on extraordinary flights on Wednesday to go to their homes where they will spend health isolation and not in the sites designated by the Egyptian state.

The sources said that the decision to allow the passengers returning from abroad to spend the quarantine period in their homes has been put in force on Wednesday on the exceptional trips coming from the Lebanese capital Beirut.

The State Supreme Committee to manage the coronavirus crisis recommended to abolish the quarantine of the returning Egyptians on the exceptional trips organized by Ministry of Civil Aviation, according to the sources.

The Cairo International Airport received on Wednesday about 450 stranded people who arrived from Beirut on three exceptional flights. All the passengers were subjected to the coronavirus tests inside the airport terminal, and they did not show any symptoms or suspicion of being infected with the COVID-19. Thus, they were allowed to leave the airport to spend the isolation period in their homes.

The sources indicated that those suspected of being infected among passengers will be immediately sent to quarantine hospitals for treatment.

The Civil Aviation Authority had decided to stop the movement of civil aviation in Egypt, whether coming or leaving from Egyptian airports since March 19, and the decision excluded five cases of suspension, including air cargo flights and charter flights so that tourist groups could return after the end of their programs without bringing in new ones, International ambulance trips and domestic flights within the country.

It’s noteworthy that Egypt registered on Wednesday 1,079 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total cases to 28,615.
